Meditation. 17.9.2017. “For you – a free gift”

I have heard many people criticise Christians because they are not “perfect”. They appear to think that if you have chosen that way of life then you shouldn’t have any faults or ever do wrong.

Ideally that would be so. But it’s not.

There are many people in the world who devote their lives to serving others. We all know and admire someone like that.

But no-one is ever good enough to earn their way to inheriting life forever! It isn’t a matter of balancing the scales or filling entries in the ledger….

Credit: I give to charity, I do voluntary work serving others, I attend church each week…

Debit: I wasn’t quite honest, I’m jealous of my neighbour, I did that in company time… which way do the scales tip?

No, that’s not how it works. No one – not one of us - can earn a place in the kingdom of heaven.

Everyone has sinned. No one measures up to God's glory.

The free gift of God's grace makes all of us right with him. Christ Jesus paid the price to set us free. (Romans 3:23,24 NIRV)

That is such a mind blowing statement! As undeserving as we are, God is ready to overlook our failures and because of His love and the selfless love of His Son, there is no downside to the scales or debit in the ledger.

He wants our love and dedication above all else in our lives, but the gift of LIFE (life forever) is His free gift to us! Don’t you think the least you can do is accept His gift? Accept the sacrifice that Christ made for you? Live life their way… because of their wonderful grace and mercy?
