Nativity scene

Who is the Christ in Christmas?

We say the word “Christmas” so often at this time of year but how often do we think of the “Christ” in Christmas?

Do we know him? Really know who he is?

The Jewish people had been expecting the Messiah for centuries and yet when Jesus was among them they didn’t know him. After all the prophecies concerning him in their writings, they still didn’t recognise him.

He was despised and rejected... Isaiah 53:3 NLT

He came unto his own, and his own received him not. John 1:11 NLT

Jesus is coming again. Do we know him well enough to recognise him? Or will we reject him in our ignorance?

There are prophecies about Jesus in the Old Testament but if you feel you don’t know him you may like to start by reading Luke or one of the other gospels (Matthew, Mark or John) which contain the story of his ministry.

To know him is to know the meaning of love and grace.
