Road sign "Look up and live"

Look up and live!

The above sign was displayed near local roadworks. Of course it was warning of power lines above, but it immediately brought to mind some words of Jesus.

In Luke 21 Jesus is also giving a warning. He tells his followers of what to expect in the future, including the siege of Jerusalem in A.D. 70. He warns of wars and persecutions, earthquakes and famines, and terrible times to come.

But then he gives encouragement:” Then everyone will see the Son of Man (Jesus) coming on a cloud with power and great glory. So when all these things begin to happen, stand and look up, your salvation is near!” (Luke 21:27,28 NLT)

There is also a personal warning for each of us in verses 34-36: "Be careful, or your hearts will be weighed down with carousing, drunkenness and the anxieties of life, and that day will close on you suddenly like a trap. For it will come on all those who live on the face of the whole earth. Be always on the watch, and pray that you may be able to escape all that is about to happen, and that you may be able to stand before the Son of Man."

Look up to God and live!
