Grapevine

I Am the True Vine

"I am the true vine. My Father is the gardener.

Remain joined to me, and I will remain joined to you. No branch can bear fruit by itself. It must remain joined to the vine. In the same way, you can't bear fruit unless you remain joined to me.

"I am the vine. You are the branches. If anyone remains joined to me, and I to him, he will bear a lot of fruit. You can't do anything without me. (John 15:1 4,5)

Jesus gave us a wonderful allegory when he likened himself to a vine – the true vine; and ourselves as the branches.  It gives us the visual picture of actually being joined to him. So much so that if we are not joined to him, just like a broken branch we would wither and die.

And we would bear no fruit. The fruit we should bear are the fruit of the Spirit listed in Galatians 5:22:  love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.

We can’t do it alone. But Christ is always there to help us. We need him in our lives.

I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.  Philippians 4:13 (NKJV)
