A message of hope
Peter had just healed a man lame from birth. The people were all amazed and rushed to see Peter who told them not to be amazed because it was God who had worked the miracle. During his discourse he also said:
Now repent of your sins and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped away.
Then times of refreshment will come from the presence of the Lord, and He will again send you Jesus, your appointed Messiah.
For He must remain in heaven until the time for the final restoration of all things, as God promised long ago through His holy prophets. Acts 3:19-21 (New Living Translation)
Peter couldn’t have made it clearer that Jesus will return. And what was promised long ago through His prophets? You might like to read verses 21, 24 & 25 from Ezekiel chapter 37 as an example!
We are seeing the initial fulfilment of this prophecy (and many others from the Old Testament) concerning Israel taking place. So we can have no doubt about the rest of it coming to pass. Jesus WILL return and he will be King over the earth. If we turn to God, as Peter said, then not only will we have blessings now, but also a wonderful hope for the future – for ourselves and for the world.
