Mountain Views

Most people experience a sense of awe as they stand on top of a high mountain with a spectacular view.

But what mixed emotions Moses must have had when he stood on top of Mt Nebo. He had led the Israelites almost to the Promised Land but now as his death was imminent, he looked out over the land he wasn’t to enter.

Deuteronomy 34:4 Then the LORD said to him, "This is the land I promised on oath to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob when I said, 'I will give it to your descendants.' I have let you see it with your eyes, but you will not cross over into it."

And Moses the servant of the LORD died there in Moab, as the LORD had said.

Moses would have been excited that God’s people were about to enter the land; however after 40 years of journeying, he would not set foot on it.

Yet.

For in Hebrews chapter 11 Moses, along with others, was commended for his faith. And the final verse reads:

These were all commended for their faith, yet none of them received what had been promised, since God had planned something better for us so that only together with us would they be made perfect (Hebrews 11:39,40)

When Jesus returns the faithful will receive the promise. Will we be among them?
